Welcome back everybody! I hope you had a lovely Easter break and that you are keeping safe! This term's topic is all about comparing different places to see how they are similar and different. In Science, we are going to be learning about Plants and Flowers and we are going to be thinking about the celebration of Passover during R.E lessons.

English:

Practise writing the following letters: z, s, t, x, w, q,  p

Practise writing your name! Your first name, middle name and your surname! (This is a repeated task, practise makes perfect!)

Which of the Phase 3 sounds can you remember? Use the sound cards in your bookbags. Can you say and spell the sound?

Maths:

Let’s hunt for numbers!

Take a walk around the house to find hidden numbers (clocks, books, car registration, oven, washing machine) could they record the numbers they see in their books?

Science – Plant hunt around the garden

This term we are going to learn about plants and flowers, to start things off, head outside and see which Spring flowers you can find. I've attached a Spring Flower sheet at the bottom of this page, but see if you can find any that aren't on the list too! If you find any flowers which aren’t on the list, jot them down and see if you can identify them when you get home -searching the flower description online might help find the name!

You could even make your own viewfinder using a square cut out of a cereal box to hunt for each flower.

What’s happening outside?

Record how many cars/ people walk past your house-  Set a timer for 5 minutes on your phone or tablet.

Draw out a simple grid (as below) and ask your child to put a tick in the right place every time a person or car goes past.

When complete, can they count up the ticks and write the matching numeral? Were there more people or cars?

Year 1:

Phonics & English

See which phonemes you can remember! Use your Phase 5 flashcards in your book bags to see which sounds you can remember!

Parents: Ask them to write down the phonemes to see if they can remember the way they are written (if there is more than one way, ask them to write them all down!.

Don’t panic if you’re not sure of the sounds they make, here’s a handy video to help you – but make sure the children don’t peek or hear!

 

Create a passport!

The Head of Security has asked you to design a new passport! They’ve said as long as it has the important information that you need on it, they are happy to see what you come up with! 

What is a passport? Why is it useful to have? Ask an adult if they have a passport you could have a look at. What information is on it?

 

Maths:

Can you write the following numbers down using digits:

Twenty three

Forty six

Thirteen

Sixteen

Sixty five

Eighty nine

 

Super challenge:

One hundred and sixty five.
