School Closure Work

So, we are off school for a period of time - what now? 

On this page, I will be sharing tasks for you to attempt whilst the school is closed. There will be an English, Maths and Topic piece of work for each day. 

I've uploaded a file (at the bottom of the page) of various ways you can encourage your child to stay active whilst the schools are closed too! 

What else can I do do to help my child during this period?

Read with them! There are plenty of websites to support this, https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/ and https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ have lots of games and books for you to share with your child!

Solve some Maths problems: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ is a great place to start! Just select the year group your child is in to find the problems they could tackle each day. 

Practise number bonds! These are the pairs of numbers that add up to 10. 

 

And above all else, enjoy your time together! Bake cakes, build with lego, have treasure hunts around the house, learn a new language - or some key words, draw, make a play, set up an obstacle course in the garden or pick some different coloured flowers! (I've uploaded a '100 Things To Do Indoors' sheet attached at the bottom of this page.)

Phonics: Login in to Phonics Play: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/

Username: march20           password: home

Play Picnic on Pluto on Phonics Play (click Phase 3, then it’s the first game on the screen) – login is if needed. Select the ‘ur’ sound then see if your child is able to read the words correctly and sort them into real and fake words.

Phonics Noughts and Crosses

-Create a 3 x 3 grid and write the following phonemes/tricky words in each of the boxes. 

he, she, me, my, igh, ai, ch, th, ai,ng

Take it in turns to name what is written in the grid. If you say it correctly you can add your nought or cross in that square.

Maths: Does it Roll? (See attachment at bottom of page)

Topic: 

Spot the difference. (See attachment at bottom of page)

Think about what they look like, what they eat and where they live!

Year 1: 

English: Complete Tests 1 & 2 (Autumn) in your English workout books 

Maths: Challenge attached at the bottom of the page - placing 2 digit numbers on a number line.

Reception

Phonics: Learn the new phoneme/sound 'ur'- Geraldine the Giraffe will help you!

Can you write the words: fur, curl, turnip.

Can you write the sentence: My dog has fur on his tail. 

Can you remember any of the phase 3 tricky words: here's a really catchy video of them all to help you!

Maths: Cut out a circle, square and triangle and stick them in your book. Can you write the name of the shapes next to them too?

Can you challenge yourself by naming any of the other 2D shapes? 

Topic (Art Based): 

Have a go at creating a picture of a gorilla!

You could sketch it (remember to use light strokes of the pencil!), draw your picture on a computer/ipad, make a gorilla out of craft materials you find around the house or even paint it! 

Year 1: 

English: Have a go at writing a poem about a gorilla – can you use rhyming words at the end of each line?

Maths: Go on a shape hunt around your house or village! Which 2D or 3D shapes can you spot? Make a list of each shape type in your Maths book!

Topic (Art Based):
